Understanding how greed and the need to acquire money are the roots of fundamental problems of our day. The desire for personal gain, as well as the goal to optimize profits in business, are arguably the strongest motivations pushing people to work hard and further the development of ever more efficient technologies. At the same time, this pursuit of wealth and profits has often led to the exploitation of human beings and natural resources. The pursuit of money often overrides other values, such as justice and social equality. Rather than being a means to an end, the accumulation of wealth has increasingly become an end in itself in our society.
