Florida (2018), by Lauren Groff, is a collection of 11 short stories linked by common themes and its characters’ relationship to the state for which it is named. Contrary to popular conceptions of the state, Groff’s version of the state comes with more menace. Her stories are definitely not an ode to Florida nor would you expect to find the book in a tourist shop at Disney World.
